Honda Civic RS eHEV – We Achieved 27.8 km/l, But Still Couldn't Win 1st Prize / YS Khong Driving
This video is about a fuel consumption challenge we participated in during the recent Honda Civic RS e-HEV media drive.
Teaming up with me were Uncle Leeps from The Star, and Sean Chua of Sin Chew Jit Poh motoring. The route was form Bamboo Hills in Kuala Lumpur to our lunch place in Melaka, a journey of approximately 160 kilometers.
Given 150 minutes to traverse the entire route, we had an average speed of just a little above 60 km/h, but with the traffic jams and slow moving traffic, we had to go quite a bit faster, as there were penalties if we were late.
Thus it was a task of managing our travelling speed based on remaining time and remaining distance, aided in a great way by the Android Auto system that enabled us to use Waze to navigate, which also included an estimated arrival time. Of course we also hade to gamble on whether the route to the lunch venue would be jammed since it would be around lunch time by the time we arrived in Melaka.
So it was two and a half hours of driving with a light foot to get the best consumption – so you can see part of our journey, which includes the heavy traffic in Kuala Lumpur and the last bit of city driving in Melaka.
We managed 27.8 kilometers per liter fuel consumption (which is actually incredible), but unfortunately we only managed third place. Surprised? There were two other cars that did better, clocking 30 kilometers per liter – whilst we drove quite conventionally, and kept the air-conditioner, the other two kept the air-conditioner off, and wound all the windows up to keep a smooth air flow over the car, and beat us, quite fairly, I would say, because there were no rules that said they could not turn off the air-conditioner. So the price paid for the cool comfort of the car was around 3 km/liter of consumption.
Still, this above exercise is a good indicator of the potential fuel economy of the Honda Civic e-HEV RS.
Please enjoy the video, and keep a lookout for our other videos on this lovely car.
Thanks for watching, and Cheers!
